Marine Gunnery Sergeant John David Fry Scholarship (Fry Scholarship) provides Post-9/11 GI Bill ® benefits to the children and surviving spouses of Servicemembers who died in the line of duty while on active duty after September 10, 2001. Eligible beneficiaries attending school may receive up to 36 months of benefits at the 100% level. Post 9/11 GI Bill® (Chapter 33) – Transfer of EntitlementThe transferability option under the Post-9/11 GI Bill® allows Servicemembers to transfer all or some unused benefits to their spouse or dependent children. The request to transfer unused GI Bill® benefits to eligible dependents must be completed while serving as an active member of the Armed Forces. Hazlewood Act – LegacyThe Hazlewood Act is a State of Texas benefit that provides qualified dependent children 25 years old or younger with an education benefit of up to 150 hours of tuition exemption, including most fee charges, at public institutions of higher education in Texas. This does NOT include living expenses, books, or supply fees. Hazlewood Act – Spouses/DependentsThe Hazlewood Act is a State of Texas benefit that provides qualified spouses and dependent children of Veterans with a 100% permanent and total VA disability, are paid the 100% rate due to individual unemployability,
are missing in action, or who died as a result of a service-related injury or illness with an education benefit of up to 150 hours of tuition exemption, including most fee charges, at public institutions of higher education in Texas. This does NOT include living expenses, books, or supply fees. MyCAA Scholarship ProgramSpouses of service members on active duty in pay grades E-1 to E-5, W-1 to W-2 and O-1 to O-2 who have successfully completed high school and have the ability to request tuition assistance while their military sponsor is on Title 10 military orders are eligible. Spouses married to members of the
National Guard and reserves in these same pay grades are eligible. |
