2005 jeep grand cherokee rear wheel speed sensor replacement

Guys, can someone send a picture of where the rear wheel speed sensor is? i got under the car and cannot see where it is.

i need the car for modnay as i am going away, the wheels span going up a ramp slowly, and god only knows what will happen now that it has\is snowing, ( i have a fair idea what will happen).

jeep want almost $400 for this.......

Havent got a pic, but it slots in just above the top of the axle on each side into the backing plate. If you have done any mud or salted road driving they will need some gentle wiggling to get out. I think its a 8mm bolt head for the retainer.

can see where the cable is, even if i manage to remove it from behind the wheel arch, i am not sure I will ever be able to plug the new one back in.

have you guys swapped it out while the car was on the ground?

Yeah, but i have a 6" lift and 35's.

You will need to jack the car up in that corner, and probably remove the wheel.

jesus f*ck man, think i will take it to some 3rd party garage and get them to do it. Jacking the car up isnt straight forward, and getting under the car whilst its jacked def not a good idea.

think i will just sell this piece of sh2t, i have had no end of problems since i purchased it three years ago, and the UK just does not have the skilled technicians to work on jeeps.

shame as i really like the way the car looks, etc.

The way I ended up removing mine was to remove wheel, remove brake caliper/holder and brake disc which allows much better access to the ABS sensor. Remove the small bolt and in all likelihood as was my case you need to grab the sensor with small vise grips or pliers and wrench the hell out of it to remove, destroying it in the process. Make sure the parking brake is off to removed rotor which will need a few taps with a hammer to come off.

Are you saying jacking the car up to remove the wheel is still a problem..?..you don't need to get under the car, just sit in front of the offending area and have at it. Not much fun if you are out in the cold though.

I bought a new sensor for my wk 2005 grand Cherokee 4.7 as my abs/traction control lights were on along with mileage going nuts. I managed to get the old on off with a bit of banging and twisting but broke the new one trying to get it on. Ordered another new one but are there any easy tips to get the new one in easy? I tried covering it with washing up liquid but it was solid..... Kept twisting when tapping it in??

I needed to take a rolled up piece of emery paper to the bore and clean it out really well after spraying it with brake cleaner and PBBlaster to decrud it. There can be a lip of rust/corrosion on the top of the bore which will significantly decrease the diameter so the new sensor won't fit.

has anyone had any success just pulling them and cleaning them? mine act up every now and then- i need to clean the front ones tomorrow, and then maybe move to the rears

Thanks for your help, managed to get the new one in but had to file the plastic casing around the sensor down to fit it in. Very tight squeeze. All in tho and lights all out. Thanks again
