Oct 14, 2010 This will be a half ass description on this but better than nothing. My daughter's 2008 Dodge Avenger with the 2.4L four cylinder threw a couple of codes relating to the crankshaft position sensor. I forgot to write down the code numbers. (see I told you it was a half ass write up) The only reason I'm doing this is because a search only turned up a 96
model with this problem and they are different. After you locate the sensor it is pretty easy to change. It requires no depth setting or anything. The sensor is located on the back of the block near the bell housing area. It sits behind the exhaust heat shield so you have to take out 1 bolt with a 10mm head and another with a 13mm head so you can move the heat shield out of the way. Then you press the grooved area on the wiring connector to release it and pull the wires off the sensor.
The sensor is held in the block with a 6mm bolt again requiring the 10mm socket. Pull this bolt out and pull the sensor out. Put a little Vaseline on the new sensor o-ring, stick it in the hole, and put the retaining bolt back in. Put the heat shield bolts back in, reset the check engine light, and your done. I use an OBD II reader that scans all platforms I bought off ebay for under fifty bucks and plug it into a notebook computer. It came with some freeware programs to read and reset
codes. I use the scantool.net software. Joined

OBD II reader and the Avenger I use an OBD II reader that scans all platforms I bought off ebay for under fifty bucks and plug it into a notebook computer. It came with some freeware programs to read and reset codes. I use the scantool.net software. Sooooo What kind of stuff can you see with
