How do I identify a Stradivarius copy?The Label – To really know if it's an original one you can always identify it in the instrument's label. Stradivari's violins always had a label that read “Antonius Stradivarius Cremonensis Faciebat Anno”, followed by the year they were made.
How many Stradivarius copies are there?How Many Stradivarius Violins Been Made? The 960 instruments were violins, and the rest were violas, cellos, guitars, and harps. Unfortunately, out of that number, only about 650 are in existence right now, and only over 200 violins were accounted for.
Can a Stradivarius be copied?Of the estimated 1,000 violins Stradivari made, there are only about 650 still in existence. The Library has three of them (and a few violas and violoncellos he also made). People have been copying these and other Stradavari instruments almost ever since they were first produced.
