UPDATE: Funimation has announced that the English dubs will be available on the site starting with Season 4 Episode 17’s dub on February 13, 2022. (That’s Super Bowl Sunday!) After that, one dub will be released each week. Toonami should have the dubs late night on February 12/early morning February 13, depending on your time zone, if their schedule is the same as last year.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Based on when the English dubs of Season 4 Part 1 were made available, we can estimate that the English dubs for Season 4 Part 2 will be available about a month after the premiere, released on a week-by-week basis. This means that since Season 4 Episode 17 of Attack on Titan is airing January 9, you can expect the English dub of Season 4 Part 2 to be released sometime around the first week of February (and also early in the morning on Sunday/late Saturday night of that week.)

Last year, Attack on Titan Season 4 Episode 1 premiered on December 6, 2020. Then Toonami released the dub of Season 4 Episode 1 on January 9, 2021, almost exactly one month later. The new dub aired on Toonami on TV at 12:30 a.m. Eastern that Sunday morning and 11:30 p.m. Central that Saturday night. Then it released later in the day on Funimation, that Sunday afternoon.

Although English subtitles always release just hours after Japan releases every Attack on Titan episode, the dubbed versions take longer.

Unfortunately, if you were wanting to watch an English dub of the new episode today, that just won’t be possible.

According to the Toonami Wiki, Season 1 of AoT first aired on April 6, 2013, and the dubs were released on Toonami on May 3, 2014. Then Season 2 Episode 1 aired April 1, 2017, with the dub releasing April 22, 2017. Season 3 Episode 1 aired on July 22, 2018, and the dub released on August 18, 2018. So aside from the really long wait in Season 1, the rest of the seasons have consistently released dubs about a month later.

Fans Are Divided on Subs vs Dubs

I really enjoy the dubs and personally recommend that fans of Attack on Titan watch both the dubs and the subs to get a full enjoyment of the episodes. However, there are some fans who think the dubs are simply no substitute for the subs. Others think the dubs are fine except for some exceptions, like Eren’s voice.

Others love both the dubs and the subs and think the acting is great for both, but they don’t like the dialogue changes that show up in the dubs that we don’t see in the subs. One Redditor says the characters sound more poetic in the dubs, some release information they really shouldn’t, while at other times some foreshadowing you might see in the subs is lost in the dubs. It’s really just a matter of personal preference, in the end.

Which do you like better, dubs or subs? Feel free to let us know in the comments below.
