Bath and body works exchange policy reddit

So i’ve been seeing some rumors on here about return policy changes (no even exchanges).. and that would be so detrimental to b&bw. between the rapidly raising prices and the ugly, uninspired, and lazy faceted packaging collections (which, by the way, are retuning once again for the summer) i really don’t think there’s a need for any more changes, right b&bw?? especially when your entire company is based upon the concept of “any return for any reason- we just want you to love it”. well im going to stop loving it right now if i can no longer exchange a lotion for a lotion, a candle for a candle, regardless of sale price, receipt, blah blah blah. you’ve already taken my money and will probably resell my product, whether or not I used it.

As far as I know, not really. This is because of- Lifetime satisfaction guarantee. As advertised. Like it or exchange it seems to be the default. I think that it can vary from store to store, because some stores are more adamant on providing receipts than others, so some stores/ employees may try to implement a value exchange vs an "item for item", or any candle for any other candle, exchange.

Another factor is providing an ID/ email address, there may be a limit per month/ quarter on how many you can do that are attached to this. Also varies, my store likes receipts, but has never once asked for my Id or email, but will at the same time still honor item for item vs applying value.

I know for sure an employee can give a better answer, but this is my experience and I've also seen contacting respondes, CS online may contradict both store policy and themselves sometimes.

im glad this is still the policy. its the only reason i feel comfortable spending $300+ on candles when theyre on sale. i also never feel bad exchanging a candle i dont like if ive used it once or twice. im not gonna use the whole thing or even half and return it, but if i burn it twice and theres still no throw im gonna exchange it.

on candle day/sales im gonna keep buying some extra vanilla bean 3 wicks that i can use to exchange at a later date for candles i want. i dont see an issue with this and had an associate on candle day this year actually promote this option. she told me yea buy these now and then in the spring you can just exchange them for some new scents. i pick vanilla bean because its a popular candle they can sell all year.

theres always gonna be someone trying to scam the system no matter what. i would have been really disappointed if they changed their policy due to a few bad eggs.

While most companies would love to push their expense onto consumers, they have to consider consequences of doing so. If ppl don't want to pay for the increased prices then the loss is on the company. It's called price elasticity of demand.

B&BW can do this because their clever sales strategy and the demand skyrocketed due to more ppl staying at home made their rendered their products as inelastic (meaning that ppl will buy the products regardless of the price)

I also want to point out that price increases is happening literally everywhere. Not just B&BW. According to this article, 3700 supply chain disruptions were reported in 2019. (4,200 in 2020).

This article does a good job at explaining the series of events that lead to the current situation with the supply chain. Below is a snippet of just one aspect of the problem (regarding circulation of shipping containers)

The average price for a Chinese-made standard 40’ container is approaching $6,000, more than double what it was in 2016. The post-lockdown jump in demand, combined with lower container turnover, caused prices to rocket higher. Thousands of containers are still stuck in the wrong place.

Many containers that carried millions of masks to countries in Africa and South America early in the pandemic remain empty and uncollected because shipping carriers have concentrated their vessels on their most profitable Asia-North America/Europe routes. In other words, there are fewer containers in circulation, creating an imbalance in usable supply and demand.

No limit! We have a very open return policy. There is absolutely no time limit, you can return anything, any time, for any reason is what we’re taught to say.

The only thing that will affect your return is whether or not you have the receipt. If you don’t have a receipt you will receive the lowest value for the item which is usually two or three dollars. If it’s something we still currently sell in store you can do an even exchange, however if it’s something that has been discontinued and you don’t have the receipt you will get lowest value or a merchandise card.

Don’t forget to have ID on you for the return! They have to scan it if you have no receipt, and certain locations scan it even with your receipt.

Hope this helps :)
