Car shows and cruise in near me

All I can say is “Thank goodness car shows are outside!” It’s been a tough couples years in pretty much all respects and even Maine’s beloved Car Show season has been disrupted. But events are outdoors so it’s easier to be and feel safe and it’s good summer family fun. We expect we’ll have a lively and busy car show season here in Maine here in 2022!

As of mid-May 2022, the calendar is filling in but there are a lot more folks we have yet to hear from. I will mark the status of each show as I know it.

Confirmed shows are listed with a “thumbs-up” emoji (👍) and are placed at the beginning of the month in which they occur — unconfirmed listings will follow — it’s quite likely they will actually take place but we don’t have confirmation yet.

Kick off the summer season with a  cruise through Maine’s scenic countryside in your classic, antique or special interest vehicle. Our destination this year is the Wiscasset, Waterville & Farmington (WW&F) Railway Museum in Alna. Ride the Sheepscot Narrow Gauge Railway on historic stream trains for a trip back in time and explore the facilities and workshops of the WW&F Museum. As an added bonus, the Bluegrass Music Association of Maine have “picked” this event for their “Jam and Meet Up”. The best bluegrass musicians will be performing at our destination and maybe aboard the WW&F steam train!

? NO UPDATE YET FOR 2022…Monday, May 25 :: Gray Memorial Day Parade
Classic car owners are invited to join the Memorial Day Parade in GRAY with line-up starting at 10:30AM at Russell School.
The parade route is roughly 2 miles and ends at the American Legion Post 86 (15 Lewiston Road) where we line up all the cars for display.  We currently have many classic and vintage cars, motorcycles, horses and several military vehicles.  We would love to add antique tractors this year. The American Legion will have a short ceremony (40 mins) and food & drinks to follow.  The annual crowd is between 800-1500 and they stay for several hours enjoying sites, food and drinks.

Not an organized car show but there is a large field adjacent and classic cars are welcomed — so spread the word — a perfect destination with live big band music and a BBQ — oooh-weee!!! Be prepared for lots of motorcycles as this event is supported by some of Maine’s biker groups helping out the vets.
The Volunteers Jazz band (and friends of the Portland Motor Club) is an exceptional group of musicians from around the state who volunteer their time to help raise funds and awareness for Maine’s veterans. Take a listen HERE. This event raises money to help build more emergency shelters for vets — they volunteer all their time to build these portable units. Historically Portland’s biggest show! This year we’ll be sharing the Labor Day spotlight with a sister Toys for Tots car show up in New Gloucester (see previous listing) presented by the original organizers of this show which has moved around over the years but has be here at Portland Motor Club since 2009. Because of some uncertainties about our ability to continue the show here (we can — and, obviously, we are), they made sure there was a location for the event to support the Toys for Tots program so they established a show in New Gloucester. We’re happy to share the day with them and encourage folks to enjoy both events. It’s a really nice drive that takes about a half hour between locations. Come hungry to enjoy both venues!

All makes and models of cars are invited. Some of the really old timers (people and cars) may remember when McIntosh became Maine’s number one heritage apple, having survived all other Maine apples in the 1933-34 frozen winter.
“Car enthusiasts who come and display their classic cars will take in the beautiful views of the western mountains and get a free bag to pick apples,” said according to John Harker, operator of the orchard. “Our 40-year-old McIntosh trees are loaded with fruit, and we will also have a special low price for families interested in picking whole trees for making cider, apple sauce and pies.”
“We also expect a number of newer models of fancy and sporty cars,” said Steve Woodsum, one of the sponsors and owner of Great Northern Motor Works.
The Apple Shed Kitchen will have cider, cider donuts and many other bakery goodies available. Also at the farm will be The Wicked Tater Food Truck and Fresh Ella’s Ice Cream Truck.

There is no cost for the cruise, but pre-registration is requested. Pre-registration available late March at www.darlingscarshow.com.  All activities at Winterport Dragway will be subject to a paid admission. Entrants wishing to participate in the shootout competition will be subject to a tech card fee.
