Knit fingerless gloves are just better than mittens. There I said it! Sorry not sorry, but they really are. Don’t believe me? Just wait until you see all the wonderful free knit fingerless gloves patterns we have in store for you today! But first, read three reasons why fingerless gloves are better than mittens.

First of all, they make it so much easier to text (and in a world where we are glued to our smartphones this is an absolute must!) But they also make it easier to do a whole bunch of other things too like type, and drive, and knit. Yes that’s right, you could be wearing a pair of fingerless gloves while knitting another pair of fingerless gloves, and if that doesn’t excite you then I don’t know what will!

On top of that, they’re easier to knit than mittens too! There’s less shaping (and sometimes no shaping at all), and they use up less yarn, and they take less time too. How’s that for amazing benefits?!

But the real reason I love all these fabulous and free knit fingerless gloves patterns is that they’re just so stinking cute! They’re totally on trend and they make a fantastic complement to a layered fall outfit. Every time you wear them you are sure to receive many nice comments!

You might be wondering how to knit fingerless gloves. Or you might be wondering if it is hard to knit fingerless gloves. Rest assured, many, many of these free knit fingerless gloves patterns are perfectly suited to the beginner knitter. You don’t have to be a knit whiz to make these cute designs! This easy pair of fingerless gloves whips up in a flash. Uses very basic knitting skills such as the knit stitch, purl stitch, and basic increase for the thumb shaping of make 1 left and make 1 right. To tighten up the knit stitches, the knits are knitted through the back loop, which gives a much smoother appearance when working Stockinette stitch in the round.

Yarn Options for Knit Fingerless Gloves

The sky is the limit, really, when it comes to knitting fingerless gloves. You can get really complicated patterns made with very thin yarn, or you can whip up a pair of super bulky mitts in no time.

Fiber content isn’t as important here, either, unless the person wearing them has an allergy to wool. I made the pair above with a premium acrylic and love them, but I’ve also used wool (especially superwash wool so I can machine wash them if needed).

1. Easy Stranded Mitts

Plus, the pattern is actually worked flat too, so it’s a win-win for beginners! Like the name suggests, you’ll be using the stranded colorwork technique.

One good thing about free knit fingerless gloves patterns that are worked flat is that they can be knit sideways. Despite their slightly odd construction, this pattern is a pretty good pick for beginners, since you can make them with just knit and purl stitches.
