ge fridge replace water filter dispenser

Ge fridge replace water filter dispenser off
GE Refrigerator water dispenser worked fine after I changed filter, then just stopped working a half hour later and now says Dispenser Off. Not making ice either. Any ideas what could be wrong? from Appliances

replaced water filter and water inlet valve-- but unable to clear message of replace water filter/ dispenser off light. removed power for over 20 min
tried different panel buttons to clear message. also getting a code of sa 66 when trying to clear. any info would be great. thanks tmol

That's very odd tmol, I have not run into that problem as of yet.

Hopefully another tech. that has can help you out.

Try this: Press and hold Lock and Light simultaneously for 3 seconds.

hey jake found the fix. the problem is the water filter housing, first it has to be genuine GE filter there is a sensor in the filter. the code can not be cleared it only clears then the filter is installed correctly. DONT twist filter only push it in.
the computer shuts the water system down if it detects any problems at the housing. tmol

Did the customer try to twist the new filter in and broke the filter housing?

Why is my GE fridge saying dispenser off?

On models with a non-touch screen control, if you receive a red triangle icon or a "Replace Water Filter" and/or "Dispenser Off" message on the control panel display, please check the following: Check the filter area for leaks on or around the filter. In most cases, replacing the filter will resolve the leak.

Why won't my GE fridge dispense water after replacing filter?

Air may be trapped in the water system after replacing the filter. Press the dispenser cradle for at least 5 minutes to purge any air from the water lines.

Will GE fridge dispense water without filter?

Your GE refrigerator will not make ice or dispense water if there is no filter or if the filter needs to be replaced. You can install a filter bypass plug to keep the water flowing in your refrigerator or when your home is equipped with a reverse osmosis water-treatment system.

Do you have to unplug fridge to change water filter?

Consult the owner's manual for specific instructions. Pull the refrigerator out and unplug it. Place a bucket or towel under the inline water filter. Take the filter housing from its case.
