Do AirPods Work With Android?

Yes, Apple AirPods work just fine with any Android phone or tablet as they’re still standard Bluetooth wireless earphones. You can even connect them to non-Android devices as long as the device supports Bluetooth.

On Android, you can use AirPods to listen to music as well as use the built-in mic to talk on phone calls. The only downside is that you can’t control certain functions of your AirPods.

For instance, you can’t check your AirPods’ battery levels from your Android phone (though there’s a paid app on the Play Store to help you do that). You also can’t change what double-tapping the AirPods do from your phone. These functions can only be customized from an Apple product.

A key benefit of the H1 chip used in the AirPods Pro and AirPods Max, as well as the W1 chip in the standard AirPods, is an extremely easy pairing process with compatible iPhones and MacBooks.

However, if you want to connect your AirPods to an Android device, the pairing process is altogether more involved. Here's how to connect AirPods with Android phones and tablets.

1. Open the AirPods case.

2. Press and hold the rear button to initiate pairing mode.

3. Go to the Settings menu on your Android device and select Bluetooth.

4. Find the AirPods on the list and hit Pair.

Your AirPods should now be connected to your Android handset. But keep in mind that, since they're connected to a non-iOS device, you're going to lose some functionality like automatic pausing when removing an AirPod from your ear.

The ability to customize the double-tap feature will also be unavailable. Instead, it will function as a play/pause button
