Is open access the same as PPO?

The gist: PPOs are, by definition, open access. They are more flexible in which providers you can see, but you pay more than you would with an HMO.

Is open access an HMO?

An HMO Open Access, or Health Maintenance Organization Open Access plan, is type of health plan that offers you flexible coverage along with tools and resources.

What is select open access?

This plan lets you visit any doctor in the Aetna network without a referral, it's entirely up to you. Visit your Primary Care Physician (PCP) or go directly to another network doctor.

What is the difference between a PPO or HMO?

HMO plans typically have lower monthly premiums. You can also expect to pay less out of pocket. PPOs tend to have higher monthly premiums in exchange for the flexibility to use providers both in and out of network without a referral. Out-of-pocket medical costs can also run higher with a PPO plan.
