May 11, 2018 I'm sure this topic has been beat to death, at least what I can see when doing a search of the forum. None of the past posts really hit on my question though. On the rear-view mirror inside the cabin are 3 buttons. The one on the left, and right are obvious, but the middle one, with the little power symbol on it is supposed to be for the mirror
dimming feature. To the left of this button is a little light (led). When I push the button, the led does not come on. Even at night, the button does not engage the light. No matter how many times I push it, no indication anywhere on the dash says a button has been pressed. I've yet to do a flashlight test to see if the mirrors are actually dimming, but I'm going to guess they are not, since the last time I did a night drive, The cars behind me were just as bright in the mirror, as looking out
the back window. Is there something in Uconnect to enable/disable this feature? Is that middle button now used for something else? Ejection seat? Missile launch? Oil slick? I'm still pretty green on all the toys, but I think this is the FINAL button I've yet to figure out. Cheers! Joined Aug 26, 2016 · 2,597 Posts
My 2016 has an LED light, but it is never lit. Under "Settings" in the Uconnect you will find the control for the mirror. It is either off or on. The easiest way to see if the mirror is on is to open the sunroof (if you have one!) in the daylight and you can watch the mirror darken. Joined

May 11, 2018 Thanks. Nothing in uconnect. Unless they are hiding it. Maybe the 2019 TH does not support it? However, the button is there, and i can see the sensor in the mirror. I ordered this fully loaded. So either they are using the dimming mirrors across all lines, or mine is ill. Lol Joined Apr

From the manual “. 2. The LED light located between the ASSIST and SOS buttons on the Rearview Mirror will turn green once a connection to a SOS operator has been made. Joined

It’ll be red if the system is malfunctioning. In regards to the dimming a push of the button turns mine on or off as one would expect. There is a setting in the Uconnect but I haven’t looked for it personally. Joined May 9, 2018 · 34 Posts
Discussion Starter · #6 · May 11, 2018 Thanks for the tips. I thought the led was for the dimmer. Great that I know what it’s really for. I can confirm 100% there is no setting in the uconnect. Just settings for vented and heated seats. Can someone with a 2019 take a look in uconnect?

Can someone with a 2019 take a look in uconnect? It's not in Uconnect on the 2019s. The button will be
back-lit, or not back-lit to indicate it's status if I remember correctly (which is rather subtle, and only really noticeable at night).
The light functions as indicated above. Joined Aug 26, 2016 · 2,597 Posts
Well if the idiots can put an actual switch to control the mirror, why can't they put put real toggle switches for the seat heat/coolers? Just sayin"! Well, at least I now know why I have never seen the LED light lit! LOL Joined May 9, 2018 · 34 Posts

I'll test tonight, because nothing seems to work during the day. Seems odd, they would put a button on the mirror, and nowhere does it show whether this button is engaged or not. The mirrors do nothing when I press it. I called the dealer, and they said the Uconnect should show the option, and as we all know, it does not. They also said the side mirrors should also dim, which they don't. Best I can do, is wait for the sun to go down and test... Joined Apr 2, 2017 · 54 Posts
The side mirrors are definitely not dimming. Not a feature. My rear view (2019) does work as it is supposed to. I can see it change at night though the tint on the back window is quite dark so it’s not a huge difference. My manual still mentions the “touchscreen” operation - probably something they forgot to edit out... Dealers unfortunately know very little

Interesting that they moved the dimming feature to the mirror...in my 2014 it's in uConnect and maybe they got complaints about having to go in to use the feature. FWIW, I wish I had a manual dimming mirror with an old school lever..the computer and I don't always agree about dimming ;-) Joined May 9, 2018 · 34 Posts

unfortunately know very little from my experience. Went for a quick ride tonight down a semi busy road to test the dimming mirror. The button does work, so that's a start, but even though I had a pile of cars behind me, the mirror did not appear to dim, no matter if the back light on the button was on or off. So maybe its really smart and will only change if I have train light behind me, or it's not working. During the day, it does not do anything. Should it? i.e.
bright sun behind, etc? If so, then It's clearly not working. How drastic is the transition? Perhaps I'm not seeing the change? Aside from the mirror dimming issue, The middle dim dial down by the headlight dial, does absolutely nothing. Headlight knob works, as well as pressing it's center to engage the fog lights. The dim dial on the right dims and brightens everything else inside the cockpit, including the cup holders, etc. It was thought this middle dial controlled the under dash
lamps, cup holders, etc, etc. It does not. I thought maybe it might control the brightness of the outside assist lamps under the mirrors. nope. If someone else can test that, please let me know what it does... Joined Dec 31, 2013 · 7,631 Posts
Personally, I don't think the auto dimming mirror does that great a job, so maybe yours is working? Joined Apr 10, 2016 · 362 Posts
