Control That Yeast!

Verified purchase

Please keep these stories going. Very motivating. The one negative was when Dr. Now told (I think it was chuck) when he was under 350 he'd get his skin surgery, but when Chuck weighed in at 348, he made him go back and try harder. That almost stopped him cold. He was totally shot down. For the most part, Dr. Now. is kind hearted. He's the only Dr. I've seen to actually care enough about these morbidly obese folks to even bother with them. He gets frustrated, yes, but only because he works so hard to make them LIVE and sometimes it seems that they're not trying. When they succeed, He is very proud and happy for them. I am grateful for Dr. Now. Another thing I wanted to offer in advice to whoever is morbidly obese and watching this, is that any kind of powder, talc, cornstarch etc, will FEED the yeast and make it worse!! Use an anti-fungal, like most foot powders, jock itch etc with either miconazone nitrate or the active ingredient in Tinactin. They'll keep you dry but won't promote the yeast infection. Been there!!

Awesome Show!! Inspiring

Verified purchase

I love this show. Dr Now is so kind to specialize in helping people like the ones in these stories. I've seen his miraculous work and how he has been able to save lives of those who seemed like a lost cause. I thought it was a shame that people like Pauline were not successful since she refused to take his advice. Breaking bad habits is very hard to do but this show is inspiring when you see how people with such a strong food addiction somehow manage to get it under control with Dr Now's expertise. I am overweight myself but not near in these people's condition so it is inspiring to see that people way worse off than me can do it. Imagine eating 10,000 calories or more per day which I imagine is the case when your'e that large and reducing that to 800 like Dr Now has them do in the hospital. That would be very challenging they must feel like they are starving. Will continue to watch they have my vote.

Real life struggles of morbid obesity totally exposed...we all know someone in a very similar situation

Verified purchase

What I find most refreshing about this series is: (1) it shows the real life ups and downs of weight loss struggles for the morbidly obese; (2) not every story is a complete success with a "happy ending". The physician, realistically, commends their individual successes but does not let them hide from the truth when they fail, pointing out what he believes is the problem The programs can serve as a good guide for those people considering weight loss surgery, as it is not a quick fix and is not for everyone. I applaud the inclusion, in many episodes, of mental health counseling, as this is where the food addictions and morbid obesity usually begins. All of the participants who have been referred to counseling have seemed genuinely engaged and want to find out why they have the need to consume food as they do. This is a REALity series that is REAL.

Wonderful show! I have such empathy for these people

Verified purchase

Wonderful show! I have such empathy for these people. With every other addiction, you are able to avoid it, but you can't do that with food. These people have to face their addiction at every meal. To see them gain strength and lose weight through sheer force of will I still powerful to watch. It is a triumph of the human an spirit!

Overcoming more than her weight

Verified purchase

I gave this 5 stars as I was so impressed with this woman's husband and the way he cared for her. Also she had a difficult journey but over came more than her weight problem. I had actually watched all but the last 10 minutes ,got interrupted, and made the purchase just to see the ending.

Not as good as the first season

Verified purchase

Compared to what first aired on TLC, season 3 seems a little lazy. The stories are way to short to really give the viewer an in depth look at the struggles that the people face. It is interesting, and very emotional but it fell short of the expectations set by the first season.
