Modern dance classes for adults near me

At Studio Inspiratie, you can also take Do-In Yoga classes, exceptionally beneficial for your body, core stability, self management and flexibility. Experienced dancers but also people without any prior experience with dance or yoga experience the advantages of these classes. Feel welcome to try out!

Location
The dance studio is located in the Barthkapel, Brouwersgracht 2K down town in the city of The Hague. The studio can be reached by public transportation: tram line 2, 3, 4, and 6, and bus line 25.

Note: To reach the studio, walk/bike into the alley at nr. 2 (next to Stichting Yasmin) on the Brouwersgracht, all the way through till you find yourself at the courtyard. On your left, above the stone staircase, you’ll see the door of nr. 2K. Take the stairs to the first floor to find the studio. You will enter our kitchen/dressingroom first. The studio doors will be opened when the class starts. The front door is open at least 10 minutes before class.

About the dance teacher
Annemieke Wauters, the head teacher at Studio Inspiratie, has many years of experience as a dance instructor, dance therapist, choreographer, director and story-teller. In addition she is also a certified Do-In Yoga teacher. Annemieke has a good eye for posture and movement, always loved working with people, and enjoys guiding individuals on their way to become the best they can be.

Language of instruction
Students from an international background who haven’t mastered the Dutch language yet, are more than welcome to enroll in dance classes at Studio Inspiratie. The teacher will teach the danceclasses in English as needed. Yoga classes are teached in Dutch, but Annemieke will provide English translations as long as needed.

Modern Dance at the USC

Dancing has become very popular in the past years. The popularity of programmes such as ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ has put dancing back on the map in the Netherlands. There is a wide variety of dance to choose from at the USC, from Belly dancing to Zumba and from Ballroom dancing to Salsa. There is something fun for everyone who loves to dance.

Lose yourself to the rhythm of the music
Classes are easy to follow – no complicated dance steps - accessible to both young and old. The uplifting salsa, flamenco and hiphop music make every class a party! It doesn’t just make you happy; you are working on losing that extra weight while having fun. More and more boys and men are also finding their way to the dance classes. Streetdance and hiphop in particular are extremely popular!

Dancing is an ideal way to relax after a hard day’s work or study. It is also a perfect way for the expressive sports person to let their creative energy flow. Above all it is a fun way to make new contacts and expand your social network with an active and creative pastime. At the USC you can choose from a wide variety of dance classes at all levels of experience which ensures your weekly dance class will never become boring!

Leidsch Academic Art Centre

Are you enjoying the dance classes at the University Sports Centre? And are you looking for the next challenge? Then, take a look at the Leidsch Academic Art Centre. The LAK courses offer more depth and are more focused on the art and creativity of dance.

Throughout the whole year two daily classes (ballet and contemporary) are offered Monday through Saturday. On Saturdays Gaga/dancers is the contemporary class. During holiday periods and when intensive programs are offered, the schedule may vary. If you have special needs, please don’t hesitate in contacting us. All of our classes and workshops have English as the main language and are open to dancers with a professional level and training. 

Pre-reservation is required. It is recommended that dancers arrive to the studio at least 15 minutes before class starts.

All ballet classes are accompanied by live music, played by a group of  professional pianists. Contemporary classes are accompanied by professional percussionists or with music chosen by the teacher. See our musicians page

  • 10 Class Card

    The 10 Class Card of € 90,-, is strictly for own use, non refundable, non transferable, good for a calendar year and expires on the last day of the year in which it is purchased.

  • HUPass (Heavy Users Pass)

    The HUPass gives you unlimited access to the OPEN classes (not for workshops and Masterclasses),  and is valid for 30 days.

Ballroom Dancing is the original style of formal couples dancing. It's comprised of dances such as; Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, Viennese Waltz & Quickstep. The most practical and popular of these dances is the Foxtrot.

What are the 5 modern dances?

Some choreographers and dancers include in modern dance styles hip hop, lyrical, free style and fusion, a combination of dance forms like tap, jazz, modern and ballet.

How long does it take to learn modern dance?

If you are an absolute beginner at any type of dance, it may take you eight years of very frequent training (at least four times a week, six times ideally) to become a very good contemporary dancer. However, remember that contemporary dance is not reduced to just acrobatic or physical skills.
