Juvenile & Domestic Relations District Court
Provides the following services: General District Court handles most traffic violations. The General District Court also hears minor civil and criminal cases known as misdemeanors and conducts preliminary hearings for more serious criminal cases called felonies. The general district court will present Driver's Licenses to juveniles. Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court hears all matters involving juveniles such as criminal or traffic matters. In addition, this court handles other matters involving the family such as custody, support, and visitation. The court also hears family abuse cases, cases where adults have been accused of child abuse or neglect, and criminal cases where the defendant and alleged victim are family or household members. Driver's Licenses, which will be issued to minors, are received through the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court. The largest lot is north of the jail at the corner of Mosby and Peabody street. There is usually a long line to get through Courthouse security each morning around 9:00am. You cannot
bring camera cell phones or and other recording devices into the courthouse without special permission from a judge. Weapons, drugs, and any contraband are prohibited. Your bags will be x-rayed and you will walk through a metal detector. There are two entrances into the Prince William County courthouse. The main entrance faces Lee Avenue and is usually very crowded at 9:00am. The second entrance faced route 28/center

All cases involving minors (as defendants or victims) are heard here and cases that involve a family members as a victim. Prince William General District Court (GDC)The second floor of the courthouse is General District Court. All adult crimes, including DUI, DWI, refusal, underage DUI, hit and run, reckless driving, and traffic tickets are first heard in General District Court. Even felonies typically begin in General District Court. There are 5 general district courtrooms in Prince William County and four full time judges.
Criminal Arraignments are typically heard in Courtroom 1 at 8:30 and DUIs, traffic tickets, and other misdemeanor cases are usually heard in courtrooms 3, 4, or 5 at 9:00am.
