RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- Temperatures today won't climb much above the 50 degree mark, which is well below-normal for this time of year!
Good morning! It's a cold morning with a clear sky across the Carolinas. Temperatures prior to daybreak are poised to dip near or below the freezing mark for much of the Triangle. High pressure will keep the region dry today. Clouds will gradually increase.
By Tuesday, this regional high pressure will shift off to the north and begin to give way to an approaching low pressure system through the Eastern US. An overcast sky will develop. Rain will likely arrive by midday Tuesday. The heaviest/steadiest period of rain is expected to occur during the afternoon and early evening hours; a few heavy downpours may occur as well, though flooding issues should be limited. Most of the rain from this system is poised to push off to the east/northeast overnight Tuesday, leading to a largely dry day Wednesday.
Cold air will continue to sweep into the region out of the northwest through the remainder of the week, Highs will hold pretty steady-n the upper 40s/low 50s through the end of the week. Otherwise, strong high pressure is poised to build across the central US during the middle of the week, spreading into the East by the end of the week, keeping the region dry, yet chilly.
High pressure holds into the upcoming weekend over the bulk of the East. We will continue to monitor what could be a potent low (perhaps nor'easter?) which may spawn out of the western Gulf Saturday and possibly transition through the Southeast late Sunday or early next week. We will run with a low chance mention of rain late in the upcoming weekend/early next week for now until we have greater confidence in this forecast.
Have a great day!
