The story of the film starts with a boy named Miguel who loves music so much and he always dreams to be a musician. They don’t want him to be a music fan or a musician because of his family’s opposition. Because his grandmother or simply Coco’s father leaves her and his wife and never returned just because of music. Then Coco’s mother Imelda decided to banish music from her family’s life. As a family business, they started a shoemaking company, but Miguel’s true passion was music, and Ernesto de la Cruz was his hero. Watching Ernesto’s old movie helped him learn how to play the guitar in secret. One day Miguel accidentally broke a frame in which he finds out a picture of Coco’s mother and half a picture of her father, he saw Coco’s father holding a famous guitar of Ernesto. Ernesto, he reasoned, must be his great-great-grandfather. One day he decided to perform in a talent show “Day of the Dead.” He finds out Ernesto’s guitar but when he played a string of that guitar he becomes invisible. In his village, no one can see him but his skeletal dead relatives can see him because they are visiting their village from the Land of Dead for the holiday. The dead relative finds out that Miguel removed the photo of Imelda from the ofrenda, and now she can’t visit because of the rules. Miguel finds out that he is now cursed because he picks that photo with him. Now he wants the blessings of their dead relatives. If he abandons his musical ambitions, Imelda will grant him a blessing, but he refuses and goes to seek Ernesto’s blessing instead. Ernesto is waiting for him when he meets Hector, who says that he can only take him to Ernesto if he brings his picture back with him, so that he can see his daughter Coco before she forgets who he is. After Hector introduces Miguel to Ernesto, Miguel learns the truth about his paternal lineage. Eradicating Hector’s reputation in front of his family, he discovers Ernesto poisoned him and takes his guitar, which made him famous. At last, Coco puts Hector’s photo back and Imalenda also accepts him and feels bad about Hector. Hector finally gets to meet his daughter after all these years.
