Why did stallone abandoned his house

It might have been the bellyaching from Sylvester Stallone's neighbors about attempts to close an entrance to his Coconut Grove street.

Maybe it was the gruesome killing last month of his pal, fashion designer Gianni Versace, on South Beach.

Or the foiled attempt by a security guard to burglarize his mansion.

In any event, megastar Stallone is moving out of his Miami mansion. The bayfront compound next door to Madonna's digs, which Stallone bought in 1993 for $8 million, was put on the market last week.

Asking price: $27.5 million. The palatial, 11.7-acre bayfront estate includes four bedrooms in the main house, nine bathrooms, a ballroom, library and wine cellar. There are also two guest residences, two gyms and an Olympic-size pool. It is South Florida's most expensive residence.

Some reports have Stallone and wife Jennifer Flavin house hunting in Broward and Palm Beach counties. But the actor, currently riding high on favorable reviews for his latest movie, Cop Land, may be gone from South Florida for good.

"He's just downsizing," said Realtor Alan Jacobson, of Wimbish-Riteway Realtors, the company hired to show the property. "He's a married man with a new baby."

Stallone, 50, the father of a 1-year-old daughter, said he needs to baby-proof his home.

"There is a lot of water in the back," Stallone said Wednesday night on The Keenen Ivory Wayans Show, when asked why he was selling the mansion. "We have to think of child-proofing. The house is a little much."

But others say Versace's killing on July 15, outside his South Beach mansion, has shaken Stallone.

"He thinks that could have been him," said an acquaintance, who did not want his name used. "If [Andrew) Cunanan hadn't been caught, he could have gone after Sly."

Last month, the actor expressed concern for his safety on CNN's Larry King Live.

"I increased my security after Cunanan was captured because you have to be concerned with copycats," Stallone told the talk-show host earlier this month.

Stallone said the FBI had warned him about Cunanan. The bureau had a report that, before Cunanan allegedly killed Versace, he had inquired about Stallone and Madonna at a South Beach nightclub.

Serial killers weren't Stallone's only aggravation.

In recent months, Stallone had been embroiled in a dispute with his 21 neighbors in the small community known as Cliff Hammocks.

For security reasons, Stallone tried to get the city of Miami to erect a gate to cut off pedestrian traffic on one side of his street. When neighbors, joggers, bicyclists and skaters found out, they were outraged. The street will soon get a gatehouse.

Last month, Stallone met with neighbors to appease them. About the same time, he also was fined by the Florida Marine Patrol for placing buoys behind his mansion.

Stallone said it was a misunderstanding. He said he had only been trying to discourage sightseers from anchoring in the water behind his mansion, and he thought the contractor hired for the job had permits.
