Can i use chime spot me for cash back

Like most who have posted on this topic, recently I could get cash back at a local grocery store and cvs using funds provided by the spotme feature. Than one day it just stopped working, so I reached out to chime support regarding this matter and the gist of the reply was something like, we no longer allow spotme to cover cash back withdraws at a stores register. I found this reply a bit odd considering that I had used my spot me allocation to get cash back at the store the day before I contacted chime support.

Anyway here is a solution. Walmart offers these prepaid debit master card called Walmart Moneycard (not the gift card) which uses green dot for the back end banking. You can normally find these cards in the same section the gift cards and often at the check outline, you can purchase this card and load money on it using the funds available in spotme.

You than register the card at https://secure2.walmartmoneycard.com/enroll/get-started and set a pin number so you can make an atm withdrawal using the Walmart card you funded with chime's spotme reserve. There are some small fee’s involved when you purchase the card and load it at the register; they charge $2 to load the card and atm withdraw's will run you $2.50, they will also send you a card in the mail with your name on . There is also a monthly $5 charge which seems rather high for this type of product but the card does have some extra benefits which you can read about here https://www.nerdwallet.com/blog/banking/walmart-moneycard-review/

So anyway this is a convoluted method to get cash from chimes spotme balance. I hope this is useful for some and if anyone has any other work around for this I’d very much like to hear them.

Stay healthy everyone!
