Most helpful positive review

Approved with 690 credit score

Credit Karma Member

I was Approved with a score of TransUnion - 690 & Equifax 695 with a 37% credit card utilization. CreditKarma's approval odds were "Fair Approval Odds". I checked Amex's pre-approval tool on their website and had an offer available for this gold card. Moral of the story is to not get discouraged when trying to apply for this credit card.

Denied

This card showed that I had excellent chance to get approved and I was denied. I don’t know what they are looking at to tell you that you have excellent chance and then deny you.

Card sounds great on paper

Credit Karma Member

I just called Amex and spoke to an amazing rep that walked me through the entire application process. Ordinarily, I would have filled out the application online but I filed bankruptcy 20 years ago and ever since have been denied for every American Express card since then, so I asked the rep if there was an auto decline feature with American Express for anybody who has filed bankruptcy in the past, and she said no but I could apply with no negative affects to my credit report anyway so after a 20 minute conversation I finally got through the application process and was denied again not too happy about it to say the least, considering my credit score is 761 and 804. The girl on the phone was excellent in the perks of the card sound excellent but I think I’m done with American Express from here on out. I know credit scores can be deceiving but my credit is excellent and I have about $700 in total debt and I should be able to get that card and it really aggravates me that I get denied for no reason.

Great so far

Just applied and got pre-qualified and accepted instantly. Credit karma said my chances were poor, but I still got approved.

Approved even with poor odds on CK

Credit Karma Member

Odds of getting approved on CK were "poor". Tried the pre-qualify feature on AMEX's website and was pre-approved for the Amex Gold. Applied immediately after and was approved with no spending limit. Credit score was 693 at time of applying. If you know your Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax scores and are confident with the requirements, I'd say take your shot and go for it!

i love this amex Gold Because is one of the most powerful credit card i spend what ever i can cover plus you can make a lot of reward ck told about the approval after 5 minute i got my card

Love this card

Credit Karma Member

The rewards on this card are amazing. It’s one of my go to cards. Customer service for the card is great. I got approved instantly. Amex does have a rule of no more than 2 new cards for a 90 day period. So I’m gonna wait the 90 days and get a platinum card.

Putting IN Work

I first started my credit journey in 2015. It all started with a secured card from my bank. Eventually after paying my credit cards on time I applied for an Apple Card. Rode that for a few years and then eventually went to see if I pre-qualified for AMEX. I prequalified for the gold card. Typically with a prequal its about and 80% approval. I ran with it. I applied and was sweating bullets. My application came back and they asked for more information, so I called American Express and provided the information needed. As soon as all was verified the glorious news was that I was approved. This was in the height of the pandemic so I believe they were a bit more lenient with approvals. Wanting people to spend. I have since had this card over a year now, and I must say its my go to for everyday when I am out and dining, I use it every time I eat, or shopping at the grocery store. I take advantage of the shop small as well and continue to rack up points. Overall I have around 350k points between bonuses referrals and accumulating points. It may seem silly and ego driven but having an American Express when my credit was shot so many years ago feels like a giant accomplishment. I only use credit cards now, pay them on time, and never carry cash. This card and my platinum are my everyday users. Won't go anywhere else

Don’t Go By Credit Karma

I currently have 3 Amex cards one of which is the Gold Card. The funny thing is KC says I have poor chances of getting approved……REALLY? So tell me why it’s poor if I already have it and 2 others with scores 794, 770 and 785. I say go for it and see that’s the only way you will know. Credit Karma is not the best tool to use.

CK said I had an Outstanding chance of getting approved with my 776 Trans/802 Exp scores and I wad approved in less than 3 minutes for 15K. I have yet to receive my card, but I will update my review after receiving and using my new card.

Pretty good! I’m 25 years old. I refuse to use debit any longer. I only spend what I am able to pay though! I use credit for every purchase ever. That’s how rich stay rich. Points add up!

Don't blame Amex, blame CK

Credit Karma Member

Understand your credit then apply. Having a good credit score is not necessarily the only thing to get approved. Need credit age, low credit use and decent income on top of 100% payment history. Stop blaming Amex for your poor understanding of credit. I got mine and it's awesome. The card is made of metal, it's gorgeous. Got it the very next day after approval. You get a lot of card for that 250 yearly payment. This was my dream card for years. CK said I had poor approval odds and here I am looking at my card with very passionate eyes.
