Trivia

  • For the Elite inserts, 10,000 cards of each player were printed.
  • 7,500 Nolan Ryan Legends Series cards were printed. Dick Perez did the artwork and the original artwork was presented to Nolan Ryan in a pre-game ceremony at Arlington Stadium on September 9, 1990.
  • 5,000 Ryne Sandberg Signature Series cards were personally autographed and inserted.
  • Card #744 featuring Dale Murphy and Lenny Dykstra is the only card in the set that doesn't say "Donruss" on the front.
  • Card #678 of Danny Jackson and card #680 of Mike Boddicker uses the team logo on the jersey in the spot where the team logo normally goes, in the lower left corner of the card.
  • Cards 719, 729, and 735 are sometimes incorrectly regarded as uncorrected errors because the players' uniforms don't match the team names on the cards. The players changed teams after Series 1 was printed, as acknowledged on the back in the transactions sections. Donruss just didn't have photos of them with their new teams.
  • 16 cards per pack, 36 packs per box, 20 boxes per case.
  • 1991 Leaf Preview cards were inserted into hobby factory sets.
  • Cards from the factory set had a different stripe pattern on each card, and are listed as variation (c) within the base set.
  • Ryne Sandberg Elite Signature Series
As part of the Elite insert series, Donruss had Ryne Sandberg autograph 5000 cards for random insertion in all 1991 Donruss packs. Like with the un-signed Elite cards, many of the cards remain hidden in unopened packs. Despite the announced print run of 5000 cards, this card remains relatively scarce.
    S1 Ryne Sandberg AU /5000
  • 1991 Studio Preview cards were inserted into retail factory sets.
  • This is the first Donruss baseball set to be released in multiple series.

User Comments

the INC. or no (.) is not worth even collecting IMO. Donruss has a long history of printing multiple variations, because of the different locations of printing. Leaf, INC. no period, no comma, who cares?? LOL

In my opinion, these cards should be divided into three separate sets rather than one set with each card having three variations. They could be named something like "1991 Donruss", 1991 Donruss - Copyright Missprint Set", and 1991 Donruss - Factory Set".

Boxed set includes: 792 cards, 22 Highlights cards, 4 Studio Series cards
